1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using Cartographer ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service. You must be at least 13 years of age, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to use Cartographer. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement.

2. Description of Service

Cartographer is a web-based tabletop map building tool available at app.cartographer.live. The Service allows users to create, edit, and export AI-stylized maps for tabletop role-playing games and other purposes, including world maps, battle maps, stage maps, and location maps.

3. Accounts

To use certain features, you must create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Each account is intended for use by a single individual. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

4. Subscriptions and Payments

Cartographer offers a free tier and a paid Pro subscription. All payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the Merchant of Record for all transactions. By purchasing a subscription, you also agree to Lemon Squeezy's Terms of Service.

• Pro subscriptions are billed on a recurring monthly or annual basis.
• Prices are listed on our pricing page and may change with at least 30 days' notice.
• All fees are inclusive of applicable taxes, which are calculated and collected by Lemon Squeezy.

5. AI Credits

AI Credits are used to generate AI-stylized maps. Credits can be obtained through a Pro subscription (which includes a monthly allotment) or by purchasing one-time credit packs. Purchased credit packs do not expire. Monthly credits included with a Pro subscription reset at the start of each billing period and do not carry over. The cost in credits per generation varies by output resolution and is listed on our pricing page.

6. Free Tier and BYOK

The free tier allows users to connect their own Google Gemini API key ("Bring Your Own Key" or BYOK) to generate maps without a subscription or credits. When using BYOK, map generation requests are sent directly to Google's API using your key. Cartographer is not responsible for any charges incurred on your Google account. You are responsible for complying with Google's terms of service when using your own API key.

7. Cancellation

You may cancel your Pro subscription at any time from your account settings. Upon cancellation, you will retain access to Pro features until the end of your current billing period. Any purchased AI Credit packs remain on your account after cancellation and do not expire. Refunds are handled in accordance with our Refund Policy.

8. Intellectual Property — Your Content

Maps and content you create using Cartographer belong to you. You may use them for personal or commercial purposes, including published adventures and commercial modules, without attribution. By using the Service, you grant Cartographer a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, and display your content solely for the purpose of providing and improving the Service.

9. Intellectual Property — Cartographer

The Cartographer platform, including its software, design, branding, and documentation, is the property of Cartographer and is protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, distribute, or create derivative works of the Service or any part thereof without prior written consent.

10. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose.
• Abuse, overload, or interfere with the AI generation system or other infrastructure.
• Circumvent rate limits, access controls, or other protective measures.
• Use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or extract data from the Service.
• Attempt to access other users' accounts or data without authorization.
• Upload or generate content that is unlawful, harmful, or infringes on third-party rights.

11. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation of the Service. AI-generated content may vary in quality and style. Cartographer is not responsible for the content created by users through the Service.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cartographer and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenue, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising from or related to these terms or the Service is limited to the amount you paid to Cartographer in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you via email or a prominent notice within the Service. Your continued use of Cartographer after the revised terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of the changes.

14. Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States. Any disputes arising from or relating to these terms or the Service shall be resolved in the appropriate courts of that jurisdiction.
